Searching for the perfect hummus recipe
For some time now, I’ve been looking for a fabulous recipe for hummus. I’ve found a few that are fine. I found one that was decent. I also found one that was not good at all. I just haven’t found one that is great, though.
I really like the hummus from the store. It’s so expensive though for such a little container. I should be able to make my own for a fraction of the price, right? Well, I can make my own, but it’s missing…something. Mine seems to have a bland taste and not be rich and deep like the flavor of the store bought hummus.
My recipes are all pretty similar. They all contain chickpeas/garbanzo beans, olive oil, lemon juice, tahini, garlic, and salt. I just vary the proportions of each ingredient, but I just can’t get it right! Heather! Do you have any gourmet magic? Anyone else? Even sitting here, I’m getting a craving now for some really good hummus. Too bad the stuff I made on Sunday is just okay.
My MIL has a wonderful hummus recipe — let me see if I can find it. I’ll post it and let ya know!
I never knew you had a website, but I’m glad I found it! If anyone should have a blog about breastfeeding…it’s you! =)
I found your website through your Facebook profile! =)
If you find the perfect hummus recipe please share it. I need to find one, too. I *love* that stuff.
I was hoping by clicking on this, Heather would have found and posted it by now.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh
Sorry forgot to post mine.
Made it last weekend for bridal shower.
Found out at last minute it was a bring a dish type thing and I had the ingredients to make this. I kept testing it on my daughter the hummus freak of the universe. She kept saying it’s awful, it needs something but didn’t know what. That’s why I added the odd ingredients that I did.
Long story short, many at the shower asked for the recipe. So, for you, here it is.….…..
I’ll call it.…..
“not your average hummus”
2 can gar beans, drain
1 TB lemon juice
1 heaping tsp crushed garlic
3 TB olive oil
1/2–3/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp paprika
1 tsp toasted sesame oil
several good grinds black pepper
*4 small blocks of feta cheese
3 artichoke hearts from [marinated in oil] jar
3 kalamota olives
3 high quality green olives
1/2 tsp cumin
Run all through the food processor until smooth and creamy.
Use good quality things as the dippers.
*I had a small jar of marinating feta cheese cubes in seasoned olive oil.
The cubes aren’t even an inch in size, more the size of a dice.
